Description

Banksy’s Jack and Jill (Police Kids) artwork depicts a boy and a girl, both of grammar-school age, skipping blithely into the foreground in what appears to be water. Both children are dressed neatly; they link arms chummily as they skip and she carries a wicker basket with flowers in her other hand. The children are a pastiche of innocence – except that they wear bulletproof vests with the word “POLICE’ emblazoned across each of their chests. The vests starkly contrast the supposed freedom of childhood with the concerns of many parents and with a militaristic society that feels the need to overbear protection and overstate the presumption of evil.

In addition to his iconic murals, the elusive urban artist has also released prints in a number of formats. His talent and mysterious identity have made the popularity of his pieces soar and, consequently, they are in incredibly high demand in the art world.
